Artist's Comments

I love magic the gathering. LOVE. My cousin wanted to make his own creatures, lands, enchantments, and spells. He wanted me to draw an ancient river (ancient, indicating the presence of mystical power). I agreed and started painting it, and at first, I didnt know where I was going to go with it, because I've never done SCENERY before, well, full blown scenery without characters.

But I did exactly what almost every painting tutorial points out: BLOCK OUT SHAPES FIRST. And it worked. I also added some foilage and effects with photoshop :D

Overall, I'm REALLY proud of this pic :headbang:

My inspiration was pretty much the Magic The gathering artwork...I cry in happiness :cries:

Wonderful setting! :^D Quite a beautiful painting, it reminds me of a few I've seen in other people's houses that proudly hang in a living room somewhere :3 Of course it also looks good at a card illustration :^P Magic is a game I love to watch but I just can't figure it out at all :^O I've tried to develop a CCG of my own so far, but it's had little success :^/

Ah. This looks very nice. I love the setting of this picture. I believe you did a wonderful job on it. This is my most favourite non-Sonic related picture you have done so far.

Man ... I'd love to be at a place like that. There's places similar to that that will appear in my video games, because I think mystical settings are just damn beautiful, especially when water is involved. You know?

I've heard something about the sound of water, it could make a person at ease. That makes sense since we all have a connection to it (quenches our thirst, were composed of it, etc) I forgot where I've seen the article from, but yeah water kicks ass.

Wow Chris, I think this looks incredible. If you actually painted-painted this, thats absolutly mind blowing. I fit was digital painting its still amazing. Very nice water and I like those basic shadowed forest parts in the foreground and the fairy really stands out and the waterfall looks great. Beautiful.

I think its possible to paint-paint this...gah, I need to actually paint something, but...too poor to afford paints. Btw: I used painter first then photoshop for all the little details, they work together so well

Damn you comment back fast. Go on AIM. Painting-painting is SO difficult, I think. When I try it I fail so badly I feel like an intoxicated, geriatric cow attempting an impossible task while completely aware that I lack the proper opposible thumbs necessary to even make the most futile attempt at this venture. So, ya...

That looks pretty close to the style of Magic cards...

I could never get into the game really, though I do love the unglued/unhinged sets!
